Thank You for Visiting!

I hope you find the site interesting. I thought you might enjoy a glimpse into who I am and the way my mind works.

I Love Learning What Makes People Tick, Myself Included

I enjoy meeting new people, and have always been at ease in a sea of strangers. It never seems to take long to find a connection and topics to discuss with individuals or, for that matter, large groups.

Public speaking has always been a significant part of my professional responsibilities. I feel energized in front of an audience, whether I’m facilitating a financial workshop, teaching sociology courses at a local community college, or doing a dance demonstration with my daughter.

Becoming the best version of myself is a high priority. To facilitate growth, discovery, and change, I engage in learning, exploration, and introspection (to some extent) nearly every day.

My life has taken many unexpected twists and turns. Every few years, I enter another period of reflection and redefinition. As I’ve moved through life, I’ve carved out more and more time to spend on my passions and those things that bring me joy. I try to live more simply, deepen my relationships, and have become more mindful about how I spend time and where I invest energy.

Enter Writing

I’ve designed a life that has brought me to a place where I’m happy, healthy, financially stable, and have a sense of purpose. I began writing to discover and share insights, add nuance to my awareness, solidify knowledge, and capture moments of clarity or transcendence.

My hope is that sharing my successes, struggles, and realizations will resonate with readers. If my writing helps others to identify or reach their goals, pave the way for the adoption of new perspectives or habits, and align their lifestyle with their core values, I consider myself a successful author. Knowing young readers of my picture books will giggle, gasp, or squeal “Read it again!” makes me feel all fuzzy inside, as does waking up and seeing a new illustration for the first time.

Top Six Strengths

I find taking quizzes and assessments by myself or with my husband, family members, and friends, to be both fun and useful (whether or not they hold up to rigorous scientific standards).

Quizzes can be thought-provoking, conversation sparking, and also offer us the new language or labels we need to convey our personality traits, communication styles, and strengths. The results give us tools for collaboration, deeper insights, and understanding.

Of the gazillion assessments I’ve taken, the feedback from this one was my favorite. It felt shockingly accurate, shedding light on who I am and how I interact with the world. According to the results, my top six strengths are:

Ideation

Ideators are incredibly creative. They excel at drawing inferences and connecting the dots, love to puzzle or tinker with possibilities, and are energized by new projects or revised visions of their current projects.

Achievement

Achievers are driven, determined, and resolved. They’re intrinsically motivated, seek growth, challenge themselves, and enjoy the process of making progress.

Input

Those who exemplify input are curious and inquisitive. They seek knowledge, wisdom, absorb information (like a sponge), and retain much of what they take in. These lifelong learners make wonderful teachers, mentors, or coaches.

Strategy

Strategists notice subtle patterns. They enjoy identifying and avoiding potential obstacles, and always determine multiple paths forward. They’ll assess, predict, act, react, then repeat.

Learning

Learners love acquiring new knowledge and skills. They strive to be proficient, competent, and regularly engage in metacognition (thinking about thinking). Newfound knowledge is used as a catalyst for change.

Activate

Activators are the first to ask, “How soon can we start?” Once they’ve decided, they feel compelled to act. For those with this strength, thinking and acting aren’t seen as opposite, opposed, or separate. Activators have contagious energy, passion, and excitement.
